According to a newly released annual long-term forecast report by Bloomberg New Energy Finance, electric vehicles will account for 57 percent of all passenger car sales around the world in 2040. Additionally, the Electric Vehicle Outlook 2019 report indicates that the total sale of electric vehicles will increase from 2 million as of 2018 to 56 million in 2040. Consequently, the global sale of traditional vehicles will decrease from 85 million in 2018 to 42 million in 2040.
The main driver of the major shift is the continuous decline in battery prices, which are already 85 percent less expensive than they were in 2020. The retail price of electric cars has also decreased significantly over the years, which have made them comparable and even more desirable to buy than gasoline or diesel-powered cars.
